On Wednesday, October 11, the ETM Associates held their Fall Kick-off Party, "Act I: Scene i: A Night at Chocolat Michel Cluizel," at the hidden "chocolate speakeasy" located within the legendary ABC Carpet and Home Store.
Hosted by ETM Associates Dottie Duncan and Fredgy Noel, the event featured a chocolate and champagne tasting as well as special "choc-tails." ETM Teaching Artist Shanna Lesniak-Whitney, accompanied by pianist Andrew Byrne, treated guests to a rousing cabaret performance, and three lucky raffle winners received television and movie memorabilia donated by TV Land and Nick @ Nite. All guests went home with samples of the store's world-famous chocolate.
"Act I: Scene i" is the first in a series of events by the ETM Associates to benefit a documentary film which will follow ETM teaching artists and their students during the current academic year. Resolution Seven, a New York City-based production company, began filming in August and will film throughout the year to depict the struggles of being an artist in New York and the challenges and joys of teaching music in the city's most disadvantaged schools. The ETM Associates have pledged to raise $10,000 for the film and grossed more than $2,000 at this first event.
