Last month, the 2008 winner of the Miss U.S.A. pageant, Crystle Stewart, graciously devoted a day to interacting with students at Brooklyn partner school P.S. 3. Ms. Stewart, who has a long history of dedication to education, sat in on a music class of kindergarten students, where she participated in the music lesson, taught by ETM Teaching Artist Shanna Lesniak-Whitney. Ms. Stewart then addressed the entire school in an assembly, where she discussed such topics as overcoming adversity and achieving your goals. Rounding out the fun-filled day was a mock Miss U.S.A. pageant for the students, where a few of the children were lucky enough to try on Ms. Stewart's sash.
Also in attendance at this event was Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott. Many thanks go to Shanna Lesniak-Whitney for providing a great classroom environment, the teachers and staff of P.S. 3, and most of all, Ms. Stewart.
