EDUCATION THROUGH MUSIC PARTNER PS 48 IS ONE OF 3 TOP WINNERS IN THE “GLEE GIVE A NOTE CAMPAIGN”

Over a million votes cast helped determine the 73 winning schools with grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000

On December 15 the winners of the “GLEE Give a Note” campaign were announced.  Of the 73 winning schools, only three were awarded the grand-prize of $50,000, one of which was NYC’s own PS 48 Joseph Drake in the Bronx, an Education Through Music (ETM) partner school. ETM, a New York City non-profit, makes music education a reality for thousands of at-risk children who would otherwise have limited or no exposure to the arts. Due to the struggling economy, even with the help of ETM, PS 48 has felt the impact of drastic budget cuts and has been barely maintaining their music program.

Thousands of schools nationwide submitted a video for their chance to receive a grant ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 to help save struggling music programs. In October, eligible entries were posted online and put up for public vote for one month. Over one million votes were cast to help choose the finalists. A panel composed of members from the National Association for Music Education (NAfMe, formerly MENC) conducted a final round of judging and, together with the public vote, determined the winning programs.

NAfMe is among the world's largest arts education organizations and works to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. Glee, a popular hit television series, works hard to bring light to the importance of music education. The “Glee Give a Note Campaign” was created to award prize money to the nation’s schools struggling most to keep their music and arts programs.
