1991

ETM is founded.

1992

ETM begins by piloting its innovative program at a school slated for closure.

1994

Pilot partner school wins the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award from the U.S. Department of Education

1995

ETM expands to partner with three schools

1999

ETM begins to advise schools throughout the U.S. The first such school is located in St. Louis

2000

A public partner school wins the New York State School of Excellence Award


ETM provides professional development seminars to school principals at the Mississippi Arts Commission's statewide "Whole Schools Institute"

2002

ETM begins consulting on projects in Philadelphia and New Haven


ETM participates in the Urban Music Leadership Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska, by invitation of Macmillan McGraw-Hill


ETM presents to the Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids (Michigan) and the Maryland Arts Council

2003

ETM presents on professional development model at the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Annual Meeting

2004

ETM begins overseeing implementation of its model in seven schools in the California Bay Area


ETM receives funding from the Ford Foundation to launch an external evaluation of its programs.

2005

U.S. Department of Education awards ETM a multi-year grant under its "Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination Grants Program " - ETM is one of only 14 recipients nationwide

2006

ETM's budget surpasses $1 million for the first time.


ETM-LA, Inc. is founded as ETM's first affiliate organization to partner with schools in Los Angeles using ETM's model.

 ETM begins consulting with the Stamford (CT) Symphony to create materials and train musicians for a music appreciation collaboration between the Symphony and a Boys and Girls Club.
2007ETM provides professional development services to music teachers across the Stamford (CT) public school system.
2008ETM's co-founder and longtime Chairman of the Board Edmund R. Schroeder steps up to Chairman Emeritus.  Michael R. Schaefer is elected Chairman.
 ETM-Bay Area, Inc. is founded as ETM's second affiliate organization and begins a partnership with a public school in Richmond, CA.
2009LS Associates releases the report from its 2005-08 external evaluation of ETM's programs, as part of the conclusion of a multi-year US Department of Education grant.
 ETM partners with a record-number 23 schools to serve 11,000 children.

 

Who We Serve

During 2009-10, ETM's model serves:

  • 11,000 children in New York City, through ETM's partnerships with 23 schools.
  • 5,000 children in Los Angeles and Richmond, CA, through the work of our affiliate organizations, ETM-LA and ETM-Bay Area.
In addition, ETM's consulting activities help other schools and organizations improve their services to even more children.
