Stamford Symphony Project A Success

Earlier this year, in collaboration with the Stamford Symphony Orchestra, ETM created an introduction to instruments and the orchestra for first through third graders in an after-school program.

Following state and national standards, the project made connections between family and community and the instruments and the orchestra, and it included integration of language arts, science, and classroom skills in each lesson. ETM trained musicians from the Symphony who piloted the program during 13 weeks of classes at the Stamford Boys and Girls Club this spring.

Stamford Symphony Education Coordinator Jean Carucci, who recently attended another Symphony presentation at a school attended by many of the project's participants, said, "I am proud to say that the kids from the Boys and Girls Club who go to school there knew all of the answers and more importantly were the first with their hands up.  I wish you could have seen the look of accomplishment on their faces. I knew at that moment how successful this program has been."
