On November 11th, ETM teaching artists and other area teachers gathered at P.S. 75 in Manhattan for an exciting workshop with Keith Terry, a renowned body percussionist, rhythm dancer, and educator.
Mr. Terry showed how the body could be used as an instrument and as a way to internalize rhythms and understand musical concepts such as timing and phrasing. He demonstrated how his methodology could be used by teachers to help students develop listening skills, independence, coordination, and ensemble awareness.
The participants identified many concepts that they could incorporate into their classrooms. One teaching artist said, “It was challenging and accessible. This is material my students will love.”
