On May 26th, the 5th grade chorus from ETM partner school P.S. 83 performed for an event at East Harlem’s El Museo del Barrio, the leading Latino cultural organization in New York City.
The event was designed to showcase both visual and performance arts of student artists in the community, including the musical talents of P.S. 83 students. Students from the entire district displayed their work, and the event highlighted the rich arts culture present within the community.
P.S. 83 students performed Victor C. Johnson’s choral arrangement of Will You Teach Me? for the crowd. ETM Music Teacher Mallory Rivera described her students’ reaction, saying, “The performance was a great experience, because most of them had never been on a stage outside of the one at P.S. 83. They had a lot of fun watching and listening to the other groups, and finding out what it is like to be backstage in a theater.”
The Museo del Barrio event gave the P.S. 83 choir an opportunity to gain fantastic performance experience.
