This summer, 16 students from nine of ETM’s partner schools received scholarships to attend the Usdan Center for the Creative & Performing Arts. The Long Island summer day camp offers a variety of programs for children aged 6-18 including music, art, theater, dance, chess, and writing.
Since 1998, Usdan has offered a limited number of scholarships to ETM partner school students. Campers choose ‘majors’ and ‘minors’ from the programs offered based on their personal interest and skill level.
This summer, 11 ETM students participated in the chorus program, and five students participated in the string orchestra programs. Two students from M.S. 180 qualified to play with the Senior String Orchestra, an ensemble reserved for campers in grades 7-12, marking the first year ETM partner school students have been invited to participate in this upper-level program.
ETM thanks Dale Lewis, Executive Director of the Usdan Center, for his ongoing outreach to ETM students. The scholarship program gives ETM students the rare opportunity to continue their study of music over the summer while school is not in session. The classes, lessons, concerts, and assemblies provide a total environment in which students can hone their skills and fuel their passions.
The ETM students who attended the camp this summer live all around the New York City area, including the Bronx and East Harlem.
