Mezzo Soprano Supports ETM Through Benefit Concert

For the fourth year in a row, Education Through Music (ETM) has secured spots in the ING New York City Marathon through the Community Charity Program. While ETM was fortunate to fill all of its spots on #TeamETM, we were also able to find added support from runner Melissa Gerstein in the process. Ms. Gerstein, who already secured a spot through the lottery, found ETM through the marathon’s online listing of charity partners. Gerstein contacted ETM and indicated that she wanted to fundraise on behalf of our New York City Partner School Program. Gerstein, a talented vocalist, will hold a benefit concert, “I Happen to Like New York,” on Sunday, September 15th at 3pm to raise awareness and funds for ETM. The concert will be held at the Recital Hall at Opera America (330 7th Avenue).

While the concert is free and open to the public, Gerstein encourages all concertgoers to make a donation, small or large, to a cause dear to her heart—music education in NYC schools. The concert will feature a program of art songs, cabaret songs and contemporary pieces that symbolize Ms. Gerstein’s relationship with New York. Works to be performed include pieces by Henri Duparc, Gustav Mahler, William Bolcom, Richard Pearson Thomas, Gabriel Kahane, Daron Hagen and more.

Please attend and support this wonderful event.
