For three days in July, partner school classroom teachers and ETM teaching artists worked together to develop lesson plans, worksheets, curriculum maps and integrated units. These materials contributed to the first draft of an ETM teacher resource manual, made possible by ETM's multi-year "Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination" grant from the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).
On Wednesday, May 31st, Emmy-winning reporter Morry Alter visited ETM partner school P.S. 69 in the Bronx to profile ETM's music programs for WCBS-TV.
Until its partnership with ETM began two years ago, P.S. 69 was failing on all levels and in danger of being taken over by the state. The school now boasts among the highest standardized test scores in the city, an improvement that Principal Alan Cohen directly attributes to ETM's involvement with the school.
On Friday, May 5th, more than 200 friends of ETM took over the legendary Four Seasons Restaurant in New York City to celebrate ETM's 15th Anniversary. ETM Board member Andrew Malik and Liz Smith-Malik were Benefit Co-Chairs, and Four Seasons' Managing Owner Julian Niccolini and his wife Lisa were Honorary Chairs. The event raised over $195,000 for ETM's programming in disadvantaged schools.
