Jonathan was born into a very artistic family: his mother is an artist and his father is a musical composer and teacher. Jonathan started playing piano at the age of 6, but didn’t take music seriously until taking band in high school where he picked up the saxophone. Influenced by musicians John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Rollins, and encouraged by his parents and fantastic teachers, Jonathan pursued music in college. He received a scholarship to study Jazz saxophone at the New School in New York City, where he studied free jazz, Afro-Cuban music, Indian music, classical composition, and counterpoint, eventually earning a B.F.A. in Jazz Performance in 2019. Since graduating, he’s have had the privilege of performing and teaching around New York City and the world.
