Current Openings
Development Coordinator
The Development Coordinator will be a full-time, non-exempt employee. The Development Coordinator will directly report to and will work closely with the Executive Director and Development & PR Manager as part of the Development and Communications team at Education Through Music-Los Angeles. The Development Coordinator will help further the mission by helping to manage and steward ETM-LA’s base of charitable contributors – including institutional funders, foundations, government, corporations, and individual donors; they will provide the caring cultivation and management of grants/institutional giving to ensure every child, regardless of socio-economic status, receives quality music education in order to reach their fullest potential.
Institutional Giving (Foundations, Government, Corporate) (60%)
- Research grant funding sources, support the writing of Letters of Inquiry (LOI) and grants, and help manage deadlines of all institutional giving.
- Maintain and update master grants list on a regular basis.
- Prepare and coordinate sending 4-8 LOIs per month.
- Assist with generating on average 4-8 proposals per month.
- Assist day-to-day communication with program staff in order to prepare accurate proposals, reports, and newsletters.
- Work closely with the Development & PR Manager and other departments to prepare grant reports for timely submission.
- Work closely with Development & PR Manager & Executive Director on identifying type of grant request/components.
- Work closely with Development & PR Manager to establish effective grants communications.
- Prepare bi-monthly grant reports.
- Assist the Development Department on budgets for proposals.
- Track all grants, gifts, and maintain donor correspondence in Salesforce database.
- Prepare and send tax acknowledgement thank you letters to institutions/foundations/government.
- Correspond with foundation, government, and corporate offices to schedule site visits and submit proposals.
- Assist the Development Department with updates to handbook, processes, flow of information, key deadlines, and department calendar.
- Assist with identifying, creating, and delivering customized assets for prospective and current partners (corp, foundations, et al.)
- Other duties as assigned.
Individual Giving (25%)
- Assist the Development & PR Manager with individual donor reports, including a yearly comprehensive analysis of donor trends, and updating dashboards in Salesforce database.
- Engage and help steward the Associates Board (junior board) on their annual giving and fund development plans.
- Improve systems for tracking donations and donor information.
- Coordinate appeal mailings and communicate across departments (administrative, communications).
- Track all gifts and maintain donor correspondence in Salesforce database.
- Prepare and send tax acknowledgement thank you letters and year-end summaries to individual donors.
- Coordinate and schedule individual donor visits and prepare materials to request for support.
- Support the coordination of student thank you cards to individual donors.
- Assist with the preparation of wishlist donation amounts to be published in communications materials.
- Manage donations and donation reports through third-party partners including GlobalGiving, Benevity, and other platforms (i.e. social media).
- Prepare donor lists for communications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Communications & Events (15%)
- Assist with gathering key funding and development call to action content for print materials and ETM-LA’s Newsletter.
- Assist Communications Department with gathering spotlight stories for appeal letters.
- Work closely with the Communications and the Development Department to assist with assembly of key materials for paper and digital press kits.
- Attend events and interface with community members (i.e. donors, parents, government officials, teachers, principals).
- Provide support for fundraising events including: assisting with guest check-in, assisting with managing tickets and guest lists, preparing ETM-LA’s event table, building relevant materials to cater to the specific event/branding, assisting with materials for silent auctions and raffles, and assisting with event correspondence.
- Gather and utilize assessments, data, and community feedback for grants and in marketing materials.
- Assist with the preparation of donor lists and provide funder content/logos to be updated to ETM-LA’s/other published communication materials.
- Provide support for fundraising events.
- Assist with sponsor outreach and preparing sponsorship letters for events.
- Coordinate and oversee projects/tasks with volunteers as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, English, Sociology, Data Management, Writing, or related field. 2 years of experience required; up to 2 years of the required education may be substituted for additional years of experience.
- Specialized knowledge or experience in grant writing, fund development/fundraising, government, operations, school districts, non-profit and arts sector.
- Nonprofit experience is desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Ability to conduct research online, to meet deadlines, to write and edit in response to guidelines and feedback, as well as to write and edit independently.
- Expertise in database management and using office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite; ability to learn new software such as GiveSmart and WordPress publishing. Experience with Salesforce database preferred.

Working Conditions:
Office environment with possible travel each quarter to partner schools or clients located throughout Los Angeles County. Occasional travel outside Los Angeles may be required. Must have reliable transportation to and from work; occasional errands for working duties may be assigned. Mileage will be reimbursed by ETM-LA.
Pay and Work Schedule:
- $24.04-$29.00/hr., dependent upon qualifications. Full-Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday, with occasional over-time required for special events. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

The Music Teacher – General Music and/or Choir works closely with the Director of Programs as well as the Director of Community Affairs and Partnerships to ensure effective music education on a daily basis. Responsibilities include planning and implementing a comprehensive, sequential and standards-based music curriculum according to the ETM-LA model that serves all students and teaches musical literacy, practical musical skills, content knowledge, transferable skills and higher order thinking; leading meaningful performances in which students can apply learned skills and knowledge; building a music program that becomes an indispensable part of school culture and identity which connects to the broader school community.

Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and teach engaging, differentiated, age appropriate, grade specific music lessons with a clear and concise aim, based on the ETM-LA benchmarks
- Guide student behavior and class management to maintain an optimal learning environment
- Create an online environment that is visually engaging, responsive to student needs and organized
- Serve as the in-school music faculty and will be the primary representative of ETM-LA’s mission at the assigned school site(s)
- Collaborate with academic teachers to integrate arts with the Common Core State Standards and throughout the school’s curriculum and culture
- Responsible for preparing and delivering all essential functions of the music program
- Prepare weekly standards – based lesson plans aligned to ETM-LA benchmarks
- Provide a positive and safe learning environment by establishing a clear and consistent classroom management plan according to ETM-LA training and school site policy
- Commit to growing as a music teacher in order to be culturally responsive to our students and communities
- Facilitate after-school music programs (where applicable)
- Work with ETM-LA’s administrative staff to assess the program and are required to attend mandatory paid training sessions throughout the year

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (for internship, rising seniors at the undergraduate level acceptable)
- Experience in music classroom teaching in general music and/or choir with evidence of success
- Experience teaching groups of 15 or more elementary-and middle-school aged students
- Experience and/or training in Orff, Kodály and/or Dalcroze strongly desired
- Possession of California single subject teaching credential in music or out of state equivalent preferred
- Master’s degree in music education desired
- Access to a secured network and a laptop or PC to provide distance learning is highly preferred
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is preferred
- Bi-lingual a plus (especially Spanish or Chinese)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge and proven music skill/ability in voice, musical theater, and/or instrumental (Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Orchestral Strings)

- Teaching rate anticipated average hiring range (in-school): $30.00-$45.00 per hour; (after-school): $50.00 per hour. Dependent upon qualifications and experience; $25.00 per hour for lesson planning and training
- Successful candidates will receive paid training in pedagogy, lesson planning and classroom management

Music Teacher Intern I (now accepting for Fall 2026)
ETM-LA’s internship program gives new teachers an opportunity to gain classroom teaching experience in Elementary General Music, Middle School General Music, and Elementary Instrumental Instruction. This is a paid semester internship, where Music Teacher Interns are paired with an ETM-LA Music Teacher to shadow partial or full days of teaching (about 7:40 AM- 2:30 PM), twice a week. Music Teacher Interns will be hired on a Level 1 or Level 2 basis; dependent upon education and experience. Additionally, ETM-LA Interns work closely with an Instructional Supervisor and Music Teacher – Mentor. Interns who successfully complete the semester-long internship program have been offered a role as regular substitute teachers with ETM-LA and also Music Teacher positions, as availability opens up at our new and existing partner schools.
The Music Teacher Intern will observe and assist the Music Teacher with a comprehensive, sequential, and standards-based music curriculum according to the Education Through Music (ETM) model that serves all students and teaches musical literacy, practical musical skills, content knowledge, transferable skills, and higher order thinking. Lead meaningful performances in which students can apply learned skills and knowledge as assigned by the Music Teacher – Mentor. Build a music program that becomes an indispensable part of school culture and identity which connects to the broader school community.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Responsibilities for Level 1:
- Assist with school-wide concerts (Winter & Spring) in which all students perform two to three pieces of music, respectively. This includes leading rehearsal for and conducting one song. Other tasks include assisting with all logistics – sound, lighting, staging, etc.
- Assist with managing student behavior to maintain an optimal learning environment that is orderly, productive, free of unnecessary distractions, respectful and safe.
- Assist with recording student progress toward learning goals based on the ETM benchmarks. This includes the use of formal rubrics customized to measure comprehension/learning for various specific lesson plans provided by the music teacher.
- Assist the music teacher with the creation of the classroom’s visually-engaging bulletin board and maintain keeping the music classroom print-rich, visually engaging, neat, organized and welcoming.
- Provide support and reinforce the classroom procedures and routines by which students know exactly what is expected of them and how they may interact with others to participate successfully that have been provided by the music teacher. This includes the consistent use of seating charts, posters and rules and consequences.
- Participate in ETM-LA Institute training sessions and proactively pursue professional development by utilizing and applying ETM-LA Institute content, concepts, and resources. These trainings occur throughout the year in the summer, fall, winter, and spring. It is your responsibility to plan accordingly to be in attendance.
- Commit to growing as a music teacher in order to be culturally responsive to our students and communities.
- Timely, responsive, and constructive communication in person and through phone/email with ETM-LA and school staff.
- Complete weekly assigned readings
- Create and maintain a portfolio that includes a weekly observation journal and unit plan.
- Ensembles Only: Assist Music Mentor – Teacher to keep accurate records and maintenance of materials and instrument inventory.
- Complete timecard daily through ADP.
Job Responsibilities for Level 2 (with the understanding and expectation that the essential functions of Level 1 have been mastered):
- Responsible for leading and teaching a class assigned by the Music Teacher-Mentor. This includes leading rehearsal for and conducting two (2) songs for the assigned class for the school-wide concerts (Winter & Spring).
- Other tasks include assisting withall logistics – sound, lighting, staging, etc.
- Create a visually-engaging bulletin board for your assigned class. Assist the music teacher with the maintenance of keeping the music classroom print-rich, visually engaging, neat, organized and welcoming.
- Create lesson plans and teach assigned class weekly.
- Ensembles Only: Keep accurate records and maintain all materials and instrument inventory with the oversight of the Music Teacher – Mentor.
Other Functions:
- Lifting and moving musical equipment, materials and supplies.
- Cleaning the music room.
- Using Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Calendar, MS Word, Excel and other software to create items needed for the music classroom
- Regular use of work email to communicate with ETM-LA staff.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or in progress, and a minimum of Junior standing) in Music or related field. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in music or related field preferred.
- Some classroom experience, working with children or student teaching.
- Vocal or instrumental performance capabilities. Advanced vocal or instrumental performance capabilities, particularly guitar, piano, or voice desired.
- Certification in Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and/or other music teaching pedagogies
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of musical theory and notation literacy. Advanced knowledge of musical notation and theory literacy preferred.
- Knowledge of specific musical repertoire and genres. Specialized knowledge of specific musical repertoire and genres, particularly choral. State teacher certification. Practical understanding of music pedagogy, educational theory, and child development preferred.

- Participate in ETM-LA Institute training sessions and proactively pursue professional development by utilizing and applying ETM-LA Institute content, concepts, and resources. - Commit to growing as a music teacher in order to be culturally responsive to our students and communities.

- Present parent and academic workshops at your school site as needed.
- Complete timecard daily.
Mentorship
- Provide support to Music Teacher (MT) Interns in classroom management, music pedagogy, and instructional growth and development.
- Guide and train MT Interns in developing musical activities, lesson plans, curriculum, assessments strategies and assisting with performances based on ETM-LA benchmarks and ETM-LA training materials.
- Review lesson plans with MT Interns in the field prior to implementation in the classroom.
- Advise and discuss with MT Interns on proper introductory maintenance and tracking of instruments/equipment (inventory).
- Assist with presenting professional development workshops and related support to academic teachers.
- Assist with advising MT Interns on being culturally responsive to school environments.
- Provide ongoing video recordings of MT Intern activities and demo lessons to assist the Instructional Supervisor’s evaluation and progress of the MT Intern.
- Assist the Instructional Supervisor by providing written and verbal feedback of the overall MT Intern’s progress.
Other Functions:
- Lifting and moving musical equipment, materials and supplies.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or related field. State teacher certification is a plus, specifically a state certification in California.
- 3 years primary or secondary classroom teaching experience required.
- 1 year minimum of mentorship experience.
- Additional certification, i.e., Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze and/or other music teaching pedagogies preferred.
- Experience in vocal or instrumental performance capabilities, basic guitar or piano.
- Experience in Choral/Instrumental Conducting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic practical understanding of music pedagogy, educational theory, and child development.
- Knowledge of specific musical repertoire and genres.
- Knowledge/experience with under-resourced Los Angeles communities, educational theory, and child development.

- Salary Range: $48,000-$60,000, commensurate with education and experience. This is a Full-Time, salaried, non-exempt position

Instructional Supervisor - Emphasis in Band & General Music (now accepting for Fall 2026)
The Instructional Supervisor (with an emphasis on Band & General Music) will be a full-time, exempt position and will directly report to and will work closely with the Director of Programs as part of the Programs team at Education Through Music-Los Angeles. The Instructional Supervisor will provide effective instructional supervision to nurture student achievement, well-being, and overall development, and create deep, invaluable musical and educational opportunities. Provide guidance, support, and continuous assessment to teachers for their professional development and improvement in the teaching-learning process. The Instructional Supervisor will assist with the cultivation of school partnerships, including maintaining strong relationships and communications with school leadership and community members. Contribute to ETM-LA’s professional development knowledge base, resources, and overall teacher training capabilities.
Job Description:
On-Site or Virtual School Visits (25%)
- On-site visits to mentor music teachers as needed or directed.
- Develop, maintain, and document relationships with school principals via check-in visits.
- Track what equipment and resources are at the school, determine what is needed based on existing resources, the music teachers’ skills and teaching arrangement, and procure needed materials.
- Guide music teachers on being culturally responsive to school environments.
- Document details of school visits and what was accomplished at such visits.
- Document music teacher activities formally and informally through on-site/virtual observations focused on lesson planning, pedagogy, classroom management, classroom environment, age-appropriate content, integration, and assessment.
- Informally and formally observe music teachers’ instruction and provide written and verbal feedback.
- Conduct model teaching and team teaching, as necessary.
- Provide music teacher class coverage as needed.
Instructional Support (25%)
- Provide support to music teachers in classroom management, music pedagogy, principal, and parent/stakeholder communication.
- Guide and train music teachers in developing musical activities, lesson plans, curriculum, assessments strategies and producing performances based on ETM-LA benchmarks and ETM-LA training materials.
- Teach music classes as needed.
- Review music teachers’ lesson plans weekly before lessons are taught and provide feedback.
- Recommend resources for music teachers to use in the classroom from the ETM-LA music library and elsewhere.
- Support development and administration of skills assessment tests for students.
- Train music teachers on recruiting & reconciling inventory sheets.
- Facilitate and attend performances and events including Bagels With The Band/Sweets With Strings, Music Unites the World Festival, and community performances.
- Provide professional development workshops and related support to academic teachers.
- Work with partner schools to develop appropriate parent engagement workshops.
Supervisory Support (25%)
- Ensure proper supervision, mentoring and Performance evaluation of all ETM-LA music teachers.
- Review weekly time sheets for accuracy and follow up on any discrepancies.
- Manage/Approve time off requests and arrange for substitute coverage when necessary.
- Conduct regular performance check-ins to ensure Teacher is on track and to discuss any concerns.
- Compile and administer (in conjunction with Human Resources and Director or Programs) Performance Improvement Plans & Performance Action Plans as needed.
- Track ETM-LA attendance and ensure all music teachers receive required training.
- Attend Professional Development to engage and learn new strategies for growth and development.
- Continued growth in the latest technical/digital platforms.
Operational Support (15%)
- Work with Music Teachers to collect class rosters, image releases, student grades and evaluation data for the Director of Programs to provide to the Evaluation Department.
- Track inventory and maintain resources in the ETM-LA Library & Office
- Oversee and approve any reimbursements submitted by your teachers.
- Train teachers to manage instrument inventories and instrument return process and communications.
- Facilitate instrument days or nights by coordinating logistics, scheduling and follow-up.
- Handle instrument repairs, returns and inventory.
- Collect student work/quotes/stories for the Director of Programs as needed in conjunction with communications/development projects to promote ETM-LA’s mission.- to provide to the Development Department.
- Provide support for ETM-LA’s Annual Music Unites the World Festival bringing together students from across LA County for two days of musical learning and culminating performances.
Teacher Recruitment (10%)
- Participate in Group Demo Sessions to identify potential Teacher candidates.
- Attend career/recruiting events to promote/recruit Teachers for ETM-LA.
- Championing our mission as a representative in your communities.
- Conduct face to face interviews and recommend applicants for hire as assigned.
Other Functions:
- Instructional document creation and management
- Design and implementation of new projects and materials as necessary
- General assistance at organizational events, including administrative tasks and managing students.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs.
Supervisory Responsibility (if any):
Supervision of up to 35 children in regular classroom activities and up to 200 for special events.
Working Conditions:
Standard office environment and LA public and parochial school classrooms located
throughout LA county. Regular field travel required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or related field
- Experience
- Two years primary or secondary classroom teaching experience
- Specific Skills
- Vocal/instrumental performance capabilities
- Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc.
- Musical theory and notation literacy.
- Understanding of music pedagogy, knowledge/experience with under-resourced
- Los Angeles communities, educational theory, and child development.
- Knowledge of specific musical repertoire and genres.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate, including MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education
- Master’s Degree
- Experience
- 5 years primary or secondary classroom teaching experience, preferably in the under-resourced, low-income area communities
- Staff/project management
- Specific Skills
- Advanced vocal or instrumental performance capabilities, particularly guitar, piano, and vocal
- Choral/Instrumental Conducting
- Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc.
- State teacher certification
- Advanced practical understanding of music pedagogy, educational theory, and child development
- Additional certification, i.e., Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze and/or other music teaching pedagogies
Salary Range: $66,560-$78,000/yr commensurate with education and experience. This is a Full-Time, exempt position.
