ETM’s Commitment To Your Privacy

Online Privacy Policy

This site is owned and operated by Education Through Music, Inc. Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. We want to make your experience online satisfying and safe.

Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand our policy and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.

Information ETM gathers and tracks

ETM gathers two types of information about users:

  • Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. These are voluntary submissions to receive our electronic newsletters, sign up or buy tickets for events, or make online donations.
  • Information ETM gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our sites. This information allows us to tailor our content to user needs better. ETM does not sell personal information about individual users. We may share information with trusted service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as email distribution, donation processing, website analytics, or marketing support.

Optional Voluntary Information

We offer the following free services, which require some voluntary submission of personal information by users:

1. Electronic newsletter policy

Our email communications are managed through a third-party provider (currently MailChimp), which processes subscriber information on our behalf. ETM gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe. Users may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the link provided in every newsletter that points users to the subscription management page.

2. Online donations and ticket purchasing

ETM offers online donation functionality to our users through our service providers, including Classy, PayPal, Card Connect, and Eventbrite. Classy, PayPal, Card Connect, and Eventbrite follow industry-standard security practices and do not share your information with any third party unless required by law. ETM will never share any information about specific individuals gathered through the online donation function, online ticketing processing, or online event sign-up process with any third party unless required by law.

Children

Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.

Usage tracking

ETM tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. ETM does break down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user’s browser).

ETM sometimes tracks and catalogs the search terms that users enter in our Search function, but this tracking is never associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you.

Cookies

We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer. Cookies generally do not contain information that directly identifies you by name, but they may be associated with information you voluntarily provide or information collected by our service providers. A cookie can’t read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. ETM uses cookies to track user traffic patterns (as described above).

You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you’ve set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use this site.

Advertising and Data Partners

We may work with third-party vendors and online data partners that use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your interaction with our website. These technologies may help associate website activity with other information they or others have about you, which may include your email address.

ETM or its service providers may use this information to send communications or marketing messages that may be of interest to you.

You may opt out of certain advertising or data-matching services by visiting: https://app.retention.com/optout.

These partners may use their own cookies and tracking technologies and may combine information collected on our website with information from other sources. These technologies are used to help us communicate more effectively with supporters and people interested in our mission.

Use of information

ETM uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users.

As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide to send out electronic newsletters and enable users to sign up for events. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule (depending on the newsletter) and occasionally send out updates when we think subscribers might be particularly interested in something we are doing. ETM does not sell or rent newsletter mailing lists to third parties.

We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in the Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users. But we don’t track which terms a particular user enters.

Sharing of the information

ETM uses the above-described information to tailor our content to suit your needs and improve service. We may share information with trusted service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, analytics, email communications, donation processing, or marketing support. These providers are required to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to ETM.

We do not share, sell, or disclose phone numbers or SMS opt-in information to third parties for any purpose, including marketing or solicitation.

We may also disclose information to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the safety and rights of ETM, our users, or the public.

Security

ETM’s web hosting provider www.digital-loom.com uses secure data networks protected by industry-standard firewall and password protection systems. ETM’s internal networks also employ firewalls, anti-virus software, and other measures to protect data.

Opt-out policy

We give users options wherever necessary and practical. Such choices include:

  • Opting not to register to receive our electronic newsletters.
  • Opting not to participate in certain interactive areas, which completely alleviates the need to gather any personally identifiable information from our users.

Your consent

By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by ETM. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

Donor Privacy Policy

For all donors, whether donations are made online, in person, or through the mail, ETM will not trade, share, or sell a donor’s personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.

Opt-out Policy
All donors, both offline and online, may opt-out of specific or all correspondence at any time by contacting ETM at info@ETMonline.org, 212-972-4788, or 122 E. 42nd St., Suite 2000, New York, NY 10168.
