- Volunteers wishing to become an in-school Music Teacher’s Assistant will need to complete a TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire Form or a TB test and receive clearance prior to being allowed on school campus. If you have a current TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire Form or TB test, please notify ETM-LA Staff. Otherwise, please schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider or a local clinic at your earliest convenience using the TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire Form.

Education Through Music-Los Angeles relies on our team of dedicated & hard working volunteers to make our programming possible. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside staff across the organization and utilize their unique strengths to support access to music education in schools.
Volunteer Opportunities
Event Volunteers
ETM-LA presents many formal and informal events throughout the year. These include school & community-based concerts and festivals at partner school sites and local venues, school visits by musicians & artists, and various fundraising events. Event volunteers may assist with such duties as stage production, set-up, managing guest arrivals/ seating, working on musical activities, event take-down, & more.
Office Volunteers
Office volunteering is open to all ages, and has included seniors as well as those looking for substantive work experience in a growing music education nonprofit organization. The exact duration and duties will be determined based on the applicant’s skills and the organization’s current need.
Music Teacher Assistants & Accompanists
Volunteers available during regular school hours may apply (second interview required), to assist Music Teachers in the classroom. MTAs will assist teachers with various classroom duties and lessons based on that teacher’s requirements. Additionally, ETM-LA often needs pianists to accompany students during concerts and/or rehearsals. Volunteers wishing to work in schools must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment Questionnaire Form, Mandated Reporter Training, and CANRA Form (details below).
Communications/PR Volunteers
ETM-LA seeks support in strategizing and strengthening our communications and PR efforts. If you have a background in the areas of communications, PR, graphic design, and/or journalism and would like to provide your expertise, please note it on your application.
Volunteer Requirements
Live Scan (All Volunteers)
- All Volunteers will need to complete a LIVE SCAN. Please see the Live Scan Instructions (information only) and Live Scan Form to be completed and submitted as part of the onboarding process. Instructions include a suggested list of Live Scan providers, but potential volunteers may select a location closer to them.
- The Live Scan Form will be provided to the applicant upon successful completion of the orientation, application, and interview steps.

CANRA Form & Mandated Reporter Training
- Volunteers wishing to become an in-school Music Teacher’s Assistant, and those volunteering 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year will need to complete a CANRA Form and Volunteer Mandated Reporter Training.
- The Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Form states that you acknowledge that you are identified as a “mandated reporter”, and are required to report any suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect encountered.
- ETM-LA Staff will assist with the process of completing your Volunteer Mandated Reporter Training once you have been approved as a Music Teacher Assistant.
- California Assembly Bill 506 (AB 506) requires youth service organizations to provide mandated reporter training for their volunteers, employees, and administrators.
- Volunteers who are 18 years or older and have direct contact with children for more than 16 hours per month or 32 hours per year are considered “regular” volunteers.
