Music Teacher

Ben Orlin

Ben is entering his third year of teaching music in the classroom. He started teaching in the Seattle Public Schools district at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School (RESMS) in the fall of 2021. In his second-year teaching at RESMS, he took over as an emergency substitute for the lead band director. He taught all five bands (two levels of jazz, three levels of concert) and had the privilege of hosting and directing its winter concert that school year. Before teaching, Ben graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Music in Music Production & Engineering in May of 2021.

Ben has been teaching with the Seattle All-City Summer Marching Band since 2018, instructing the high school summer program with skills of musicianship, marching, leadership, and showmanship. All-City combines students from high schools all over the greater Seattle area. Its philosophy is that any kid at any ability level is welcome and encouraged to sign up, and they will have the opportunity to learn and be successful within a tight-knit community.

Outside of teaching, Ben is an aspiring independent artist, writing and producing all of his own music. He loves the process of creating and collaborating with other musicians and artists to understand how different musical minds approach their compositions. He applies this ideology to his classroom so that all students understand and feel they are collaborating with each other to help create and contribute to this beautiful sonic art form.
