Naomi L. Fernandez

Naomi Fernandez is a passionate music educator who has been involved in music education since 2002. After receiving her undergraduate degree in K-12 Music Education from Union College in Lincoln, NE, Naomi went on to obtain her Master’s of Music Education through Boston University. Naomi has taught grades general music K-12 in public and private schools in Oregon, Nebraska, California and New York, including leading a wide range of ensembles such as concert band, hand bells, concert choir, show choir, steel drums, and group piano lessons. In 2018 Naomi began her employment with Education through Music as an Instructional Supervisor supporting and mentoring a cohort of teachers. In July of 2022, she became the Associate Director of Curriculum and Professional Development. Naomi views music as a core subject that is a right for every student. “All students deserve the opportunity to explore and learn music in school. It should not be an elitist subject,” she says. “I believe that music education can be both fun and productive. I believe in the value of humor to educate and manage. And, I believe that music is the perfect vessel to teach diversity, equity and inclusion.”
