Education Through Music New York (ETM-NY) is excited to announce the 2022 Singing Together Again Songwriting Contest!  The purpose of this contest is to produce an inspiring, high-quality, original song that celebrates a return to in person music making in NYC schools. Additionally, through this annual songwriting contest, ETM-NY would like to include more music for young people in it’s repertoire library from composers of under-represented communities.  The winning piece will be premiered at the annual ETM Gala by a student choir from an ETM partner school.

Prize:

The winning piece will be premiered at the ETM Gala on June 13th, 2022 (Cipriani 42nd Street) in New York, NY.  The winning piece will be sung by approximately 30 treble & alto singers (grades 5-8), accompanied on piano.

The winner will be invited to attend the premiere where the winning composer will receive a $1,000 cash prize.  In addition, the composer will meet and work with the choir and director.  Music industry professionals, educators, and other leaders will be in attendance at the ETM Gala.

STUDENT PRIZE: A winning piece will also be selected from the submissions of all the composers under 18 years of age. The prize for this winner will be a $750 cash prize, and include an invitation to the gala for the composer and 2 guests, to be honored during the evening. This song will not be performed at the gala, but at a later date. The $5 submission fee will be waved for any composers under 18 years of age.

Process:

• Application materials are accepted via the online submission form HERE.
• Songwriters/composers are asked to submit a score (full score and vocal-only score) and recording of an unpublished work for young treble voices (SA) on the theme of singing together again. (Use of standard, digital, notation software (Sibelius, Finale or similar) is required.  Submissions not using this format will be disqualified.)

FEE: $5 (USD) submission fee.  All fees are payable online and are non-refundable. Fee is waved for any composers under 18 years of age.

Timeline:

• April 1st, 2022: Applications due. Pre-screening begins.
• April 18th, 2022: Winner announced. 
• April/May 2022: Winner consults with ETM-NY on song and delivers final manuscript to ETM-NY.
• June 13th, 2022: Winning song will be premiered by ETM-NY Choir at the 2022 ETM Gala (Cipriani 42nd Street) in New York, NY
