On January 25th, over 125 guests joined hosts ETM, Music Unites, Grammy-winning violinist Joshua Bell, and award-winning chef Brian Lewis at a salon and cocktail reception at Joshua Bell's New York City home. This exclusive event began with passed wine and champagne, a vodka bar, and delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared by Chef Brian Lewis of the Bedford Post (recently named by Esquire Magazine as one of the top 20 new restaurants of 2009). After introductions from both ETM's and Music Unites' Executive Directors, Joshua performed a selection by Tchaikovsky, followed by a Grieg sonata for the delighted crowd with longtime accompanist Jeremy Denk. All guests left with a signed copy of Joshua's newest CD, as well as goodies from Godiva and the Bedford Post. Proceeds from this event will benefit ETM's music education programs in inner-city schools.
In addition to celebrating Mr. Bell's latest CD At Home with Friends, (which debuted at number one spot on the Billboard Classical and Classical Music crossover charts), the event also served to kick off a new partnership between ETM and Music Unites to bring established musicians into ETM partner schools to speak with, perform, and inspire music students of all ages.
