11 Out Loud: Uplifting Student Voices Brings Together More Than 300 Student Singers

June 11, 2026

On June 10, more than 300 students from eight District 11 New York City schools came together for 11 Out Loud: Uplifting Student Voices, the District 11 & Education Through Music (ETM) Choir Festival. Held at Lehman College’s Lovinger Theatre, the event marked ETM’s first large-scale student music festival since before the pandemic and celebrated the talent, dedication, and hard work of young musicians across the Bronx.

The festival showcased student choirs from:

  • P.S. 357 Young Voices Academy
  • P.S. 096 Richard Rodgers School
  • P.S. 169 The Baychester Academy
  • P.S. 105 Senator Abraham Bernstein School
  • P.S. 121 Throop Avenue School
  • P.S./M.S. 498 Van Nest Academy
  • P.S. 103 Ensemble Stars (Hector Fontanez School)
  • M.S. 180 Dr. Daniel Hale Williams School

Throughout the day, students took the stage to perform for their peers, families, educators, and community members, demonstrating not only their musical growth but also the confidence, teamwork, and creativity that music education helps foster.

The festival was the result of a strong partnership between District 11 and ETM, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring that every child has access to high-quality music education. We extend deep gratitude to our partners at District 11, to New York State Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz for joining us in celebration of our students, and to the school principals, music teachers, and families whose support made this event possible.

A special highlight of the day was the grand finale performance of “Seize the Day,” adapted by guest conductor Kristin Marchilena. Bringing together all participating choirs on one stage, the performance served as a joyful celebration of community, collaboration, and the collective power of student voices. We also extend our thanks to accompanist Daniel Meinhardt for supporting the finale.

For ETM, the return of a large-scale student festival represents more than a celebration of music—it is a reminder of the importance of providing opportunities for students to share their talents, connect with peers, and experience the joy of performing together. Events like 11 Out Loud highlight the transformative role music plays in student development, helping young people build confidence, strengthen relationships, and find their voices both on and off the stage.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this unforgettable day possible.
