Miles Music Kid Inspires Bronx Students with Special School Visit and Donation of 1,000 Ukuleles
May 10, 2026
Students at two Education Through Music partner schools in the Bronx recently experienced an unforgettable day of music-making, creativity, and inspiration when rising producer and multi-instrumentalist Miles Bonham, known as Miles Music Kid, paid a special visit to their classrooms.
In partnership with Republic Records: Kids & Family and the Guitar Center Music Foundation, Miles donated 1,000 ukuleles and three DJ decks to support music education for New York City students and help expand access to hands-on musical experiences.
During his visit, Miles spent time creating music alongside students, performing on guitar and producing an original track using students’ voices and sounds from around the classroom. The interactive experience gave students a firsthand look at the creative process while encouraging them to explore their own musical ideas.
“I’m so lucky that I have instruments around my house, and I could just play them whenever I want,” said Miles. “But some people don’t have that even though they love music just as much as I do. I’m really happy knowing that we are giving these kids all of this musical gear so they can have something to go to whenever they feel like they want to express themselves through music.”
The donation, made possible through the generosity of the Guitar Center Music Foundation, provides students with new opportunities to develop musical skills, build confidence, and express themselves through both instrumental music and music technology.
“This was an incredibly special day,” said Bree Bowles, Senior Vice President, Republic Records: Kids & Family and 2026 Co-Chair of Education Through Music’s Making Minds Sing! Gala. “Being in the classroom with Miles and seeing how students respond to music in real time is a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Education Through Music is committed to making sure every child has access to music as part of their education, and moments like this truly bring that mission to life.”
Dr. Janice Weinman, CEO of Education Through Music, emphasized the lasting impact these experiences can have on young people.
“When students are given the opportunity to create, perform, and connect through music, it not only sparks joy but also builds confidence, collaboration, and a sense of belonging,” said Dr. Weinman. “We are incredibly grateful to Miles, Republic Records, and the Guitar Center Music Foundation for helping us expand access to these transformative experiences for our partner school students.”
The visit reflects Education Through Music’s mission to ensure every child has access to high-quality music education. Through partnerships with schools across New York City, ETM helps build and sustain comprehensive in-school music programs that support student achievement, creativity, and personal growth.
We are grateful to Miles Music Kid, Republic Records: Kids & Family, the Guitar Center Music Foundation, and Jim Roppo, Chairman and CEO of Republic Records and a 2026 ETM Gala honoree, for helping make this memorable experience possible for our students.
