Music Teacher

Kristen Islas

Kristen is an advocate for joy, play, and creativity in the music classroom. Since 2010, Kristen has taught music in a variety of settings, from one on one music lessons to choir ensembles, and is passionate about teaching children with neurodiversities and special needs. Her elementary school students have enjoyed enriching performance opportunities at world renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the United Palace Theater, and Madison Square Garden. She participates in the Weill Music Institute’s Music Educators’ Workshop, Musical Explorers, and Link Up programs at Carnegie Hall. Kristen holds a M.A. in Music and Music Education from Columbia University and a B.M. in Voice Performance from the University of Arizona. Kristen is from a loving Mexican-American family in Tucson, Arizona and has resided in New York City since 2012. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two cats, and step-son.
