Joseph Colaneri
Joseph Colaneri grew up in Jackson, New Jersey, and is currently based in New York City. Joseph is a composer, copyist, and music educator whose work bridges classical and contemporary styles with a strong focus on storytelling. Much of his creative work explores themes of activism, identity, and sensory experience, and is drawn to music as a way to communicate ideas that words alone often can’t. Joseph holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Belmont University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music Education at CUNY Hunter College. Alongside his studies, he remained deeply involved in teaching and mentoring young musicians. His experience includes regular private instruction and volunteer work at organizations such as the W.O. Smith School of Music in Nashville, where he saw firsthand how access to music education can shape confidence, creativity, and community. What draws him to music education is the intersection between artistry and human connection. As a composer, he is invested in creating meaningful, expressive musical experiences; as an educator, he is passionate about helping students discover their own voices and stories through music. Joseph sees education as an extension of his creative practice—one that allows him to empower students, foster curiosity, and use music as a tool for expression, growth, and social engagement.
